Sample 1
This Halloween, I’ll be trick-or-treating for canned goods! Join me and my neighbors in collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items for donation at our local food bank. Because of the ongoing government shutdown, SNAP benefits are being stopped beginning in November, which means that many of our neighbors will depend on food pantries for support. If the governement refuses to show up for us, we can show up for each other, and have fun while doing it!

Sample 2
1 in 8 Americans depend on receiving SNAP benefits to feed themselves and their families. But amidst the government shut down and the Trump administration’s refusal to mobilize contingency funds for food assistance, these Americans will likely see SNAP come to a halt in November.
I am trick-or-treating for canned goods this year to make sure that our local food bank has enough supplies to support my neighbors when the government refuses to do so. Join me this Friday and let’s trick-or-treat together!

Sample 3
Have canned goods to donate? A group of
neighbors will be trick-or-treating for canned goods and donating them to our local food bank. Please prepare cans or leave them outside for us!
Amidst the government shut down and the Trump administration’s refusal to mobilize contingency funds for food assistance, many of our neighbors will likely lose access to vital food assistance via the SNAP program. This will put a lot of pressure on our local food banks and pantries.
Let’s show up for our neighbors and trick-or-treat for canned goods!

This Halloween, instead of just trick-or-treating for candy, trick-or-treat for canned goods!
Because of the ongoing shutdown, SNAP benefits are going to run out as of Nov - like, the day after Halloween. This means millions of people are going to lose access to vital food assistance, and that food banks and food pantries are going to be quickly overwhelmed.
If the government is going to turn its back on us, we need to support eachother. And why not do so while having fun at the same time!
Whether you’re a parent getting all the kids in the neighborhood to collect candy and canned goods, or you’re a nostalgic adult wanting to do something fun [and helpful] with your friends [and maybe get a lil candy along the way], anyone can trick-or-treat for canned goods!
Now pull that costume out of the closet, call your friends and neighbors, find a local food bank, and let’s go trick-or-treating.
